Services we offer

For people with acquired brain injury

We support service users:

• Towards independent living in the community
• To develop self sufficiency skills such as transport, budgeting, home management, cooking and domestic skills
• Towards formal learning and training such as ICT work eg. Clait, TTRS, language work
• Accessing benefits and services
• Into voluntary work and employment
• Group work sessions that focus on cognitive issues, communication work and emotional and behavioural difficulties
• Group discussion sessions to share experiences
• Social skills development group eg. Sporting session, communication walks, problem solving activities
• Art therapy sessions
• Skills maintenance
• Voluntary conservation work with Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust
• A chance to develop new skills and interests eg. Sailability
• A dedicated focussed team who have had specific training, a wide range of experience and work flexibly with service users to meet their needs. We also have input from an occupational psychologist and physiotherapist.

For Carers

Headway Southampton serves as a focus of support for families and carers. Advice on the care management of people with brain injuries is available from our own full time staff

For Work Experience

We regularly take on health and social care students from Brockenhurst College and Southampton University students for work experience placements. This gives potential healthcare professionals and invaluable insight into acquired brain injury.

For Community Service Providers

We work with service users to produce presentations based on their own experience of having had a brain injury. These presentations are available for community service providers and are good training for all those who work in this field. This helps to raise the awareness of brain injury in the wider community
